Job Description



TITLE: Dispatch Coordinator DEPARTMENT: Access-a-Ride


LOCATION: Denver




General Purpose:


The Access-a-Ride dispatch coordinator is responsible for ensuring that scheduled rides are covered by a driver on a daily basis while keeping in mind revenue hours, DOT driving/on duty hours, proper procedures and policies. Monitors the two-way radio and maintains radio contact with drivers and First Transit dispatch.





Essential Duties/Responsibilities:


The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to, the functions outlined below. Management retains the discretion to add-to and/or change the duties of the position at any time, as necessary.




General Responsibilities:



  • Open/close the facility business

  • Check in drivers and ensure they have a current drivers license and current DOT medical card

  • Assign vehicles, distribute manifests and fare boxes

  • Assist drivers by providing them with any new information concerning their assigned runs (i.e. cancellations, add-ons, drivers alerts, etc.)

  • Ensure that drivers leave base in time to make their first pick-up

  • Monitor drivers progress to ensure that drivers stay within DOT driving hours and on-duty hours

  • Move passengers from one run to another when driver shortages arise

  • Complete and process the paperwork when passengers are transferred from one run to another

  • Maintain rapport with First Transit dispatch; coordinate all changes to runs with them

  • Maintain radio contact with drivers and First Transit

  • Collect vehicle keys and puts them in their proper place

  • Assist drivers on the radio when there is an incident, accidents, breakdown or scheduling issues and sends notifications to the accident response team as required

  • Contact 911 when necessary

  • Complete forms when an accident/incident/breakdown occurs

  • Accurately enter data as required

  • Answer the phone and direct calls

  • Greet the general public as they enter the facility

  • Other duties as assigned



Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Meets all of the hiring criteria as outlined by Via and RTD

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practice and procedures

  • Dependability, punctuality and an excellent attendance record

  • Knowledge of the Denver Metro area or ability to learn

  • Shows good judgment, attention to detail, self-direction and the ability to multi-task

  • Ability to remain calm in an emergency

  • Computer skills

  • Previous dispatch experience and or at least 3 years professional driving experience

  • Bi-lingual is a plus
