Company Information: Horton, Inc., a global airflow industry leader in reliability, service and innovation has an opening for an Electronics Technician 1 to work in our Britton, SD location.
Builds, modifies, and repairs electronic controls on machine tools and facility systems and equipment, working closely with manufacturing services, engineering staff, and outside vendors to maintain and develop improvements for machine tools, facility systems and equipment.
1. Provides support to other departments by providing specialty knowledge of electronic controls.
1.1 Provides 24-hour service to maintenance and production to restore malfunctioning machines to operating condition as quickly as possible.
1.2 Provides training to the maintenance staff regarding care, use of electronic controls, controls symbols, diagnostic, troubleshooting, ladder logic.
1.3 Maintains records of maintenance activities in the area of electronic controls.
1.4 Assists with installation of new equipment working closely with manufacturing-
vendor to follow prescribed installation and setup.
1.5 Supports engineering by drawing specifications, outlining procedures, procuring components or materials and performing research activities.
2. Upgrades machine tool electronic control equipment to improve standards of operation.
2.1 Modifies existing equipment by installing upgrades, including logic, controller, PLC's and programming.
2.2 Records activities by making changes to existing blueprints and schematics.
2.3 Modifies operating instructions for the benefit of machine operators and demonstrate equipment operation for the purpose of training operators to use new procedures.
2.4 Meet with vendors to learn about electronic and control availability, new products pertinent to facilities, systems, and machine tools. Assists purchasing with procurement of appropriate components.
2.5 Assist Manufacturing Engineering with machinery and equipment upgrades to improve standards of operation by submitting systems designs, capital and financial justification, and machine integration.
2.6 Use computerized architectural drawing software (CAD) to be able to document and draw blueprints, schematics, part drawings, etc.
3. Assists and/or performs periodic repair and maintenance on machine tools and production equipment in the plant in order to provide a high level of machine availability and reliability.
3.1 Responds to requests to diagnose and repair basic and complex machines that are not functioning properly, using service manuals and schematics to assist with troubleshooting.
3.2 Performs work within a variety of technical fields, including electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic and controls.
3.3 Provides training and assistance to operators regarding maintenance that can be performed by operators or actions that can be taken to avoid problems with machines or facilities systems.
3.4 Works in concert with other maintenance staff, outside vendors or equipment service providers to diagnose and repair equipment.
3.5 Performs basic and high-end preventative maintenance on equipment, including greasing, oiling, cleaning and following P.M. procedures to complete P.M. schedules.
4. Assure all safety devices and systems are working properly and installed where needed.
4.1 Specify and install safety light curtains, electrical controls, and programming on machinery and equipment.
4.2 Work with Safety Committee and Safety Managers to address any safety related control systems to assure employee safety.
5. Evaluate and provide training to maintenance staff and other appropriate plant personnel.
Requires a two-year technical degree or diploma in electronics or a closely related field, plus 3 years of closely related work experience.
Note: Educational equivalent is 4 years of closely related work experience.
Must have legal authorization to work in the United States. Relocation allowance may be provided if the individual has all of the necessary qualifications.
